Zoning Out
In Korean, there is an expression,
“meong ttaerida”—to zone out.
It is a moment to pause what we are doing,
loosen our grip on our thoughts,
and simply be still.
When a little space opensin a heart
worn by busyness,
scattered thoughts begin to settle,
and an idea that had not yet surfaced
may gently emerge.
Ten minutes spent quietly doing nothing
may be what we need more than an hour
spent striving to accomplish something.
The autumn sunlight is beautiful these days.
Sit by a window and watch
where the sunlight rests.
Or step outside and sit for a while
where the breeze passes by.
For just ten minutes,
set aside what needs to be done
and be still before God.
Even during your regular prayer time,
do not rush to fill the silence with words.
Sit quietly for ten minutes.
Before thinking about what to ask,
sense the presence of the God
who loves you,right beside you.
As sunlight settles on your shoulders,
the Lord’s peace will gently enter your hearts.
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
(Psalm 46:10)
