Let us change
Is there someone you find difficult
to accept just as they are?
When you think of that person,
does the door of your heart close on its own?
Does a sigh come first,
even as you try to understand?
The first step toward accepting that person
begins with changing a single thought
within your heart.
From “How could they be like that?”
to “Perhaps I can understand.”
It means acknowledging that you and I
are both still learning,
still growing little by little in the grace of our Lord.
When my heart opens a little wider,
there is room for someone to sit and rest,
and through the cracks of a once-closed door,
the light of love begins to enter.
That small shift in thinking can become
a step toward a distant friend,
a tender glance that seeks to understand a spouse,
or a warm silence that gives a child time to speak.
And perhaps we will come to know a little more
deeply the heart of God, who has so patiently
embraced us in all our imperfections.
Today, let us change a single thought.
“Perhaps I can understand.”
“May we glorify God
by accepting one another.”
(Romans 15:7)
