Bad Breath
Bad Breath
Because I could not smell my own breath,
I did not make much effort to freshen it,
even when my wife pointed it out.
She had to put up with my bad breath
for a long time.
One day, during a visit to the dentist,
I was told to clean not only my teeth
but also the food particles
clinging to my tongue.
Since then, my bad breath
has almost disappeared.
Do you know what kind of scent
your words carry when you speak?
You may not notice it yourself,
but those who listen certainly do.
If others would rather avoid your words
than listen to them,
perhaps some unwanted residue
has built up in what you say.
If we carefully clean away that residue,
then whenever we open our mouths,
could our words carry
the fragrance of Christ?
“I am someone who fills the world around me
with the fragrance of Christ.”
(2 Corinthians 2:14–15)
